How to Play Atari's Centipede® Arcade Game
Just like the classic arcade game, this free online Centipede® game is simple to learn and get started but difficult to master. The goal of Centipede® is to shoot all of the segments of the centipede that crawls all around the screen by using the Bug Blaster to shoot darts. But be on the lookout for other insects that can hurt the Bug Blaster but also give you additional opportunities to earn additional points.
For desktop or laptop players the game can be controlled with your mouse or your keyboard. If you are playing Centipede® using either a mobile device or tablet you can play by tapping your device's screen.
About Centipede®
Classic arcade game lovers rejoice!
This is the official ATARI® Centipede® arcade game, first released in 1981 and -like many ATARI® games of this era- is widely considered to be one of the great classic video games from the Golden Age of Arcade Games. As one of the first classic arcade games to have a sizeable female audience, Centipede® was one of the top highest-grossing arcade games the year it was introduced, along with the classic games Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. In fact, Centipede® was so popular that its sequel, Millipede®, was released a mere year later.
Like many popular arcade games from this classic era, the premise of the Centipede® game is simple: move the Bug Blaster across the bottom of the screen to shoot darts at the centipede (hence the name Centipede®) as it makes its way down from the top of the screen. Shooting the centipede down the middle splits it into two pieces. Watch out for other insects, who can hurt the Bug Blaster, but also give opportunities for more points.
Enjoy the nostalgic factor with this classic arcade game, and good luck playing this official version of Atari's Centipede®!
